A Screen to Filter
A screen-printed image of a woven mesh drawn as a pattern for a loom. Use of the Shadow Weave motif and a moiré doubling pulls the image into dimensional illusions. From afar, this can imitate actual woven works or can give the illusion of being able to see right through the cracks. Thinking about the uses of screens - to hide, to filter or to sift.
“Garbage” is printed entirely of discarded acrylic screen-printing ink. Ink that was considered waste and would have otherwise gone down the drain. Keeping environmental impacts of art making in mind but also touches on the idea of found colour. “Compost” is a combination of leftover handmade screen-printing inks including black walnut, oak gal and alder cone dye.
